A ‘Thank You’ card in Copperplate Calligraphy
In this short gift-video to you, Jane shows you how to create a little card bearing the words « Thank You » and « Merci Beaucoup » in flowing copperplate script. Even if you are a beginner to the art of calligraphy, you’ll be able to learn to make this pretty card, following Jane’s step-by-step instructions, and stopping the film to practice certain forms and techniques as often as needed.
The materials needed are a page of ordinary sketch paper for your roughs, a blank card of good quality art paper in any colour (Jane uses one in mauve), a copperplate dip-pen (an elbow-nib or a straight-form pointed pen), three tubes of artist-quality gouache (white, purple and green in the video, but choose your favourite colours, and you can also use ink if you prefer). If you’re using gouache, you’ll need a palette and some water to dilute the paints, plus a medium-size watercolour brush for mixing.
This little card is fun to create and will surely be appreciated ! And although you won’t practice ALL of the alphabet in this class, it’s a good introduction to mastering this beautiful style of calligraphy ! ENJOY ! !
