As explained on the Home page, Jane\u2019s On-Line Calligraf\u00e9e Art School is organised in modules of six lessons<\/strong><\/em>, and each module will lead you, step by step, to the creation of a beautiful project! As the access to a module is limited to 12 months, it is recommended to follow one module at a time, only signing-up for a new module when you have completed the preceeding one (which may, of course, take less that 12 months, if you are enthusiastic!) as you will lose access to the ongoing module when you register for a new one (but will keep all the handouts…).<\/p>\n Material for drawing and coloring :\u00a0 pencil, eraser, sketch-paper<\/span><\/span><\/a> and colored pencils, watercolor or gouache<\/span><\/span><\/a> paints.<\/p>\n Material for Calligraphy : a ruler<\/span><\/span><\/a>, and either a calligraphy dip-pen<\/span><\/span><\/a> with ink (or to use with gouache paint \u2013 more about this in the video!) or a calligraphy felt-tip marker<\/span><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n Class 1-1:\u00a0 The Lombard Letters, the basis of our first illuminated initials.\u00a0 Simple decoration and motifs to enliven your letters.\u00a0 Two handouts.<\/p>\n Class 1-2:\u00a0 Calligraphy in the Humanist Style, the basics of pen-angle, pen-strokes and letterforms in the minuscule alphabet.\u00a0 Practicing with pleasure and an eye on balance, beauty and rhythm.\u00a0 Two Handouts.<\/p>\n Class 1-3:\u00a0 Drawing Fantasy Creatures\u00a0 — a unicorn and a dragon.\u00a0\u00a0 Two Handouts.<\/p>\n Class 1-4:\u00a0 Calligraphy continued, using our minuscule alphabet to write words and names.\u00a0 Letter-spacing, special combinations of letters, flourishes with the pens. One handout.<\/p>\n Six classes which guide you through all the steps of sketching, inking and painting a dragon in a fantastical setting, with a swirling scroll bearing the title in Gothic calligraphy. One hand-out per class.<\/p>\n Class 1:\u00a0 Learning to sketch some basic dragon details: heads, claws and wings.<\/p>\n Class 2:\u00a0 Dragon anatomy and giving graceful movement to your composition.<\/p>\n Class 3:\u00a0 Gothic calligraphy: the minuscule letters.<\/p>\n Class 4:\u00a0 The final project, step one:\u00a0 the full composition in pencil.<\/p>\n Class 5:\u00a0 Step two of the final project: inking in the outline and refining the details.
