Born in California, where she received her BA and MA degrees (from Mount St Mary’s College and UCLA), Jane moved to Ireland in 1988. She continued her education at UCC, Cork (Palaeography, Medieval and Celtic Studies) and then pursued more palaeographical research at Cambridge University where she was a Visiting Scholar from 1999 to 2001. From England, she moved to France, where she has lived since.
Jane studied fine art formally while growing up in Los Angeles, but is self-taught as a calligrapher. She has always been fascinated by letter shapes and especially by the beauty and wonder of the world of illuminated manuscripts of the Middle Ages.
Her musical studies began in childhood, with the piano, and at age 18 on the harp. Jane continues to delight in playing both the Celtic and pedal harp. She has recorded one CD with flutist Christian Goulet, and has another in preparation (with Christian on flute, and also with Michel, her husband, as singer and narrator. More information on this second CD will appear soon on this website).
